About

The Siren is a digital publication devoted to observing Waitsburg arts and culture, celebrating creatives of all stripes in our community. Named for both the quirky noon-time air raid siren that blares every weekday to satisfy a community’s nostalgic need for primitive timekeeping, as well as the irresistible siren call that our small burg holds for those seeking an experience less ordinary, we endeavor to be a useful resource and historical witness for arts and culture in our area.

ABOUT THE SIREN

The Siren is a digital publication devoted to observing Waitsburg arts and culture, celebrating creatives of all stripes in our community. Named for both the quirky noon-time Sterling M-5 air raid siren that blares every weekday to satisfy a community’s nostalgic need for primitive timekeeping, as well as the irresistible siren call that our small burg holds for those seeking an experience less ordinary, we endeavor to be a useful resource and historical witness for arts and culture in our area.

ARTS + CULTURE — WHAT Exactly DOES THAT MEAN?

The Siren defines arts and culture as described in Wikipedia’s Outline of Culture page. In short, it takes a broad view of creative activities including all arts (visual, performing, culinary, decorative, horticultural), artisan trades, literature, the humanities, entertainment, celebrations, community events, and tourism.

OUR MISSION

The purpose of the The Siren is to:

  • create a centralized location where people can reliably find timely information about upcoming arts and cultural events

  • provide online exposure and representation for Waitsburg artists and artisans

  • directly connect website visitors to the business, person, or activities they’re interested in

  • highlight the exceptional activities, experiences, and itineraries of Waitsburg.
