If you’re unfamiliar, you can now stream the new self-titled CD ‘The Michael Kelly Band’ on all major streaming services. This album was recorded in a Waitsburg recording studio and released in mid-December.

Mast Year Cider Collective is a worker-owned company specializing in artisan hard ciders made from wild or abandoned apples and pears foraged in Columbia and Walla Walla counties. They collect this fruit by hand, ferment it using native yeasts, and bottle it unfiltered. You can usually find them in Suite H of the Blue Mountain Station, but we’re delighted to have them with us during Waitsburg’s Hometown Christmas.

The competitors of the Walla Walla gravel cycling event Grit, put on by Allegro Cyclery, were lucky enough to receive a very cool bandana designed by Waitsburg graphic designer and cycling enthusiast Becky Wilson of Wilson Design Company.

The lung-burning routes covered 45, 65, and 95 mile loops of hardcore gravel riding on September 8, and yet even the least athletic amongst us would have been tempted to enter to just to secure this awesome bandana.

Our very own Paul Gregutt is the featured artist at this week's Wednesday Unfiltered. He picked up his first guitar in high school; engineered at Electric Lady Studios after college; signed a songwriter contract in Nashville and worked as a DJ at Seattle's legendary KZAM-FM while pursuing a songwriting career.

Currently he sings and plays with the DavePaul5 at venues throughout Walla Walla. Drawing upon a deep and varied songbook that includes dozens of originals, Paul’s rare solo shows focus on his fingerpicking skills as he reinvigorates classic songs by Dylan, Neil Young, Gram Parsons and John Prine.

For this special show at the Royal Block Paul will perform acoustic versions of self-penned songs from both DavePaul5 albums, along with previews of songs from his upcoming solo album.

At 3:30 your adventure begins at Simply Sawdust where you will be guided through the steps of making your very own laser engraved wooden pizza peel-- the italian classic 'palino' which is used to move wood fired pizzas to and from the oven. You will sand and oil your masterpiece before crossing the street to American 35 to embark on the next phase, which is learning how to make Neapolitan-style pizza. You will learn about dough, how to throw it, dress it, and fire a pizza of your own making. At the end of class, share your culinary creation with your classmates and toast your communal meal with a glass of house wine.

$80 for this 3.5 hour experience.

Join us for the First Annual Waitsburg Historical Society Quilt Show at the Bruce Mansion and Wilson Philips House on the corner of Main and 4th Street, Waitsburg, WA. There will be beautiful, handcrafted quilts from talented quilters who live in Waitsburg and from the Walla Walla Valley Quilt Guild.

Learn about the different patterns and fabrics used. All ages can also participate in the fun “Q is for Quilt” Scavenger Hunt. Plus, there will be historic self-guided museum tours of both the Bruce House and Wilson Philips house.

Known for their artistry with pasta, Bar Bacetto has been honored as a nominee for the 2024 James Beard Foundation ‘Best New Restaurant’ award.

Mike and Erin Easton will be in Chicago June 10th to attend the awards ceremony at the Lyric Opera House. For those who don’t follow the culinary scene, the James Beard Awards are among the nation's most prestigious honors in the industry, and to be nominated is (in common vernacular) a BFD. While they’re enjoying the ride and making a quick celebratory getaway of it, back home we’re just bursting with pride for all they have accomplished.

World Collage Day is an international celebration of collage held annually on the Second Saturday of May. Several Waitsburg artists/art venues will be bringing the observance to town on Saturday, May 11.

Artist Kimi Bruzas will have a solo show of her amazing surreal vintage paper collage works up at the Waitsburg ArtGarden from 2 - 7PM.

Tate Art Waitsburg will display artwork by Greg Tate, Twila Johnson Tate, and Bill Rodgers that explore the medium of collage through paint, found objects, paper, books and wood. Pick up a complimentary kit of vintage papers that you can use to create a paper collage of your own. 11AM - 6PM at Tate Art Waitsburg

The Royal Block's annual contribution to World Collage Day will celebrate poetry, wine, art, and food created by local college students, their professors, and alumni at their 2024 College \ Collage event. The Wine Country Culinary Institute and College Cellars will unite to provide amazing food and wine pairings from 3-6, followed by a Flamenco music performance by Gustavo Alonso López and Jay Roulston from 6:30 - 8PM at The Royal Block.

Waitsburg is delighted to have been added to the 2024 line-up of galleries and venues included in this season’s First Friday Art Tours, ironically happening throughout the weekend, the first weekend of every month, May through September. A suggested itinerary of the area’s most interesting events are posted each month to the ArtWalla website. Look for the signs of participating venues and stop in and say hello!

A semi-retrospective show of artist Barbara Jaksa features paintings and drawings spanning 17 years and 23,238 kilometres of home. The work is seen as the anatomy of a nomadic soul, revealed as I “connect the seemingly unconnected” (Willian Plomer, 1978) thru the use of words, marks, brushstrokes and silent blank space in the discovery of a cohesive visual language.

A sneak peek at the early morning preparations happening in the Gignac workshop for the Jaksa semi-retrospective coming up May 3-4 at the Waitsburg Art Garden. The collection of contemporary landscape work is evocative and nearly irresistible, especially in the dawn light.

The Royal Block Reading Series welcomes poets Jennifer Oakes and Kevin Craft along with musician Chris Jonlick for a lively evening of poetry, music, and book signings, Saturday April 27 at 6:30 PM.

Oakes, Craft, and Jonlick will honor the enduring power of community and the ways that unlikely connections often sustain artists. Oakes and Jonlick met as neighbors 15 years ago, and Craft is the first person Oakes read with in Walla Walla. They have since gone separate ways, but through the arts they maintain connections and seek to build local communities around creativity.

Anyone who has ever attended a show put on by Nancy Wells and her daughters Jennifer and Justine Clark of the Walla Walla Dance Company, understands that this is no dance recital. This is a professionally-produced extravaganza! Case in point, The Spindarellas, the 2024 Winter Performance which was on stage at Cordiner Hall on February 3. 'Middle Waitsburg Road Relief' garnered Greg Tate 3rd Place at Combine Art Collective's 3rd Annual Juried Show with his ceramic piece 'Middle Waitsburg Road Relief'.

Perhaps one of the most intriguing storefronts on Main Street is that of David Gignac. A metalworker and glassblower by trade, David has spent many years working in the theater and is no stranger to paint and canvas. His space is generally closed to the public, but worth a peek in the windows.
